RESCUER Don Holtum, Stroud Green Library
manager, with ferret Cano |
THIS fidgety fur-ball enjoyed some ferreting of his own after spending
hours wandering the streets of Stroud Green.
But the roving pet buried himself in some good books after he was rescued
by staff at Stroud Green Library in Quernmore Road, following an eight-hour
jaunt last Thursday.
Library manager Don Holtum said: "He was just running down the street
at about 10am sniffing the cars and the trees, just like a ferret on
a day out.
"I went and picked him up and got him sitting in the book crates in
the library. It was quite dangerous, he could easily have got run over.
I don't get to do too much ferret handling in my line of work but I've
grown quite attached to him now."
But the ferret, whose name is Cano, was eventually claimed by his owners from
a nearby newsagent after Mr Holtum launched an appeal.
His owner, who did not want to be named, revealed Cano had escaped from his
cage at about 2am.
