The RSPCA in the West Midlands is urging ferret owners to get their pets microchipped after finding an increased number of straying ferrets are being picked up throughout the region.

In the past week Animal Collection Officer (ACO) Suzie Smith has had five separate calls about ferrets on the loose.

“In the eight years I have worked for the RSPCA I have only ever picked up one microchipped ferret,” she said.

“Ferrets are renowned for being energetic, curious with a love of playing hide and seek so anyone who owns a ferret should ensure their pet is chipped for piece of mind.

“We have a real problem with straying ferrets at the moment which could be partly to do with the breeding season.

"We are receiving calls about straying ferrets every week and when they are not chipped we have no way of reunited missing pet and owner."
