AN ANIMAL charity is asking the public for help in naming a callous person who condemned a pet ferret to an almost certain death in a fridge. The ferret later died.
Discovered on Friday, November 24 in the closed fridge dumped at the tip in Blenheim Road, Epsom, the little black and white female ferret was swiftly wrapped in jumpers by kind-hearted staff at the tip while they waited for the RSPCA.
They named her Frosty and took her to the O'Meara Veterinary Surgery in Kingston Road, Ewell, where she was found to be emaciated, dehydrated, very weak and probably suffering brain damage.
In intensive care, efforts were made to save her, but on Monday her condition deteriorated and she had to be put down.
RSPCA Inspector Nicky Thorne, who is investigating the case, said: "Whoever abandoned Frosty was heartless.
"She would have died in a terrible way if she had not been found.
"She was semi-conscious, floppy and cold and looked as if she had not been fed properly.
"This is one of the most unusual incidents of an animal being abandoned that I have encountered.
"Anyone who has a friend or neighbour who has recently removed a fridge or no longer has a ferret should get in touch. We will also be watching CCTV footage."
Another spokesman said the public should not be afraid to shop anyone they know who may have dumped Frosty, got rid of a fridge recently or knew anything at all about the incident.
