FRED Astaire, probably the most valuable ferret in Scarborough, is on the run.
The four-year-old female, which cost her owner almost £3,000 to ship to Britain from Canada, slipped out of the door on Tuesday and has not been seen since.
Bobbi Benton, who moved to Scarborough last May, paid £2,400 on the animal's quarantine alone and would be devastated to lose her best friend.

Ferret thieves target home for third time

THIEVES have taken ferrets away from their rescue home for the third time.
Louise McCutcheon, 33, of Brookfield Gardens, Carlisle, cares for rescued animals from Wetheral’s refuge.
Paddy and Beanie were stolen from her garden on Tuesday night. It is the third time in six weeks she has been targeted by ferret thieves, with her shed twice broken into.
She fears for the safety of her pets.
She said: “After the first time they were stolen I found Paddy in Harraby with a bloody nose and her two front canines broken. Recommend this article... |

OLDHAM ferret fanciers have joined a local Euro MP in slamming Portugal for not allowing British owners to take their furry pets into the country.
Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies was shocked to learn that the Portuguese do not consider ferrets to be domestic pets. If owners do not have a permit their ferrets could be seized and killed. Recommend this article... |
