Gary Bogue: Pet ferrets are wimps when it comes to hunting.

Dear Gary:

My daughter just bought an older house and it is infested with red squirrels.

They are notoriously difficult to get rid of once they have established residence. A pet ferret was suggested. Do you have any information on using a pet ferret to rid a house of red squirrels?

Dave in cyberspace

Dear Dave:

Pet European ferrets have become domesticated and make great pets, but are no longer effective predators.

My guess is if you tried to use a ferret to get rid of the squirrels, they would take turns beating the poor little ferret up.

Chase the squirrels out of the attic and put new screens over the vent holes.
