As this anthropomorphized pet so eloquently demonstrates, cruising blogs aren't just for humans anymore.
For the past two years, Tom and Amy Gillespie have been living and cruising aboard their 36-foot catamaran, Dream Catcher. Among the many entertaining features of the couple's website is a section written by Tom in the voice of their pet ferret, Maggie. Here's the latest from "Ferret's Corner":
"My days onboard consist mostly of sleeping in late, then having breakfast in bed. Around 2:00 p.m. or so I will get out and play for a little bit. Play time usually leaves me exhausted, so I go back to bed until dinner time. After eating dinner two or three times, I like to go for an evening stroll through the boat looking for something to attack. Tom's miscellaneous computer parts are usually good for a laugh or two, but sometimes I make due with a random sock. |

Sometimes the biggest comfort can come in the smallest package.
Take Maylin, for example.
In the short month that my friend Aubrey Chisum in Alva, Fla., has had the feisty ferret, she has managed to spread joy.
That's no small order, considering Aubrey and her family are grieving the loss of a fellow friend's son, Allen Richard "Chip" Ellis.
The 18-year-old was murdered in an attempted carjacking in his Midlothian Va., hometown at the end of May.

Ferrets have the sleek bodies of weasels, the tenacity of badgers and wolverines and the playful energy of otters.
Those traits were on display Saturday for "Ferret Education Day" at Petco.
Ron and Trudy Lehman held the education day, hosted by the Petco pet supply story in Harper Village, and they brought more than a dozen of their furry friends to share with others.
Standing barefoot in a pen swarming with playing, sleeping, bouncing and sometimes wrestling ferrets, Ron Lehman handed a ferret to just about anyone walking past. Recommend this article... |

Pets back in school while draft policy revised
By Susan Troller

It's hard to tell whether the students or the two ferrets in Peter Plane's fourth- and fifth-grade class are happier to be back together. Two-legged and four-legged class residents were full of enthusiasm on Monday, all fairly wiggling with joy as they became reacquainted.
"Usually I don't want to come to school, but having the ferrets makes me want to be here. I was so excited about school today and I think I'll be excited to be at school every day that they are here," said Alex Lewis, a student in Plane's class. Recommend this article... |
