A ferret peeks out from
under a blanket inside Robin Hochgertel’s Ferrets First
rescue in Annandale, Va. |
The Associated Press
July 15, 2008
Poor ferrets — all those terrible rumors go round about them: They
smell, they bite, they’re mean and nasty. They’re even illegal
to own in some places.
But Robin Hochgertel knows the real secret: “People who get ferrets
have a tendency to become ferret addicts.”
Hochgertel, who runs the Ferrets First rescue in Annandale, Va., says that
ferrets are sweet and cuddly and entertaining to watch.
“They’ll get in your lap, but they won’t let you them hold
them for very long. They always have something to see and something to do,” she
says.
Ferrets are smart enough to learn their names, and they bond to individual
people.
“They’re so expressive — when you talk to them, they look
right at you,” says Lisa Vible of Elkton, Md., education director for
the American Ferret Association. Recommend this article... |

Gary Bogue: Pet ferrets are wimps when it comes to hunting. |

Dear Gary:
My daughter just bought an older house and it is infested with red
squirrels.
They are notoriously difficult to get rid of once they have established
residence. A pet ferret was suggested. Do you have any information
on using a pet ferret to rid a house of red squirrels?

Poll: Pet owners favor McCain |

WASHINGTON - If
the presidential election goes to the dogs, John
McCain is looking like best in show.
From George
Washington's foxhound "Drunkard" to George
W. Bush's terriers "Barney" and "Miss Beazley," pets are a longtime
presidential tradition for which the presumed Republican nominee seems
well prepared, with more than a dozen.
The apparent Democratic nominee Barack
Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have a pet at home.
The pet-owning public seems to have noticed the difference.
An AP-Yahoo News
poll found that pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent,
with dog owners particularly in McCain's corner. Recommend this article... |

Londonderry – Sue Kern of Brentwood
can't say enough about her stroller for small animals.
"It's the greatest thing in the world," she said, admiring one at
Saturday's Ferret Festival in Londonderry. "It really brought Frosty
around. Now he lies at the door, waiting to go out."
Ferret fanciers from as far north as Berlin and as close as Manchester
converged at the Lions Hall for the 13th annual Ferret Festival on
Saturday. They browsed at vendor stands, put their animals through
paces in several competitions, admired each others' pets, and looked
over adoptable ferrets. It's the least they can do, they say, for a
misunderstood animal that brings them joy. Recommend this article... |

(Below is and excerpt from a larger article which is linked above.
I only used the question posed about the actors experience with the
ferret used in the movie. Tom Kasner, It's a Ferret Life)
Jennifer, I don't know if you are aware of this, but you are in “Ferrets
Magazine” this month.
JENNIFER ANISTON: I didn't even know there was a ferret magazine.
That is very exciting. You know, I feel sad for the ferret because
I wasn't a big fan of the ferret. It's not the warmest, cuddliest…
BEN STILLER: I don't feel bad for the ferret.
JENNIFER ANISTON: It bit you, that's why. But yeah, of all the
animals out there to work with, a ferret wouldn't be my first choice.
But you know, I hope I pretended as though I really liked it.
You were bitten?
