Dr. Shachar Malka, DVM, Diplomate ABVP(Avian) practices medicine exclusively
on birds, exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians and other exotic pets.
Dr. Malka has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a focus on Zoology and
Marine Biology. He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, graduating from the
Koret School of Veterinary Medicine at Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Dr. Malka completed a one year internship in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine
at the University of Guelph, Canada and a three year residency in Avian and
Exotic Animal Medicine at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Malka’s professional interests include anesthesia, endoscopy,
and minimally invasive surgery of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and exotic mammals.
He treats all pet birds including psittacines, passerines, back
yard poultry, waterfowl and falconry raptors. He
also specializes in all reptiles and amphibians, ferrets,
rabbits, other rodent species, and a variety of other
exotic mammals including sugar gliders, hedgehogs and
more.
Dr. Malka has a strong interest in wildlife medicine, conservation
and education and has years of experience working with zoo animals and free-ranging
wildlife. He continues to publish scientific articles on a variety of topics
in avian and exotic animal medicine and lectures at international veterinary
meetings, as well as other regional avian, exotics and wildlife related events.
Dr. Malka is a member of AAV, AEMV, ARAV and AAZV.
