North-east first for ferret rescue | The Press and Journal | | | | | ANIMAL RESCUE: Geoff Stewart with some of the ferrets due to be rehomed. Raymond Besant | By Gillian Bell 06/09/2008 TLC on hand for unwanted animals WHEN the four-week-old ferret arrived at the rescue centre he was so malnourished he could not muster the strength to escape from the open-top box in which he had been abandoned on the doorstep. But after a visit to the vet and a month of tender and loving care from Geoff Stewart at the new Bemax Ferret Rescue Centre at Ellon, the furry creature was literally bouncing off the walls. Mental Mickey, as he was named by Mr Stewart — who runs the centre from his home at 125 Esslemont Circle — is one of 27 unwanted animals to be cared for by the centre since its recent opening. Mr Stewart, 45, who has kept ferrets for most of his life, said the centre had to launch a search and rescue earlier this week after two ferrets got out and were on the loose at Ellon. |
Both have since been recovered and are back with their owners. The centre, the first in the north-east of Scotland, covers an area from Stonehaven to Fraserburgh. For more information call Mr Stewart on 01358 724037. Recommend this article... |
