About Pennyroyal Small and Exotic Animal Hospital

Pennyroyal was formed when the Lexington Small Animal Hospital was purchased by Dr. Zaffarano in 1997. The complexion of the hospital is now 50% dog and cat, and 50% non-domestic species, such as ferret, rabbit, rodent, reptile, avian and marsupial.

We pride ourselves on excellent, up to date care for all the species we see. Our clinic features state-of-the-art medicine with an in-house laboratory, a compounding pharmacy, laser surgical capabilities, endoscopy, radiology, dentistry, special diets and boarding for all our client's pets.

We serve as a referral clinic for much of the surrounding state, and have clients travel to our clinic for our expertise from as far as West Virginia, Indiana, Tennessee, and Ohio. We provide emergency care for all our non-domestic clients, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Dr. Zaffarano has been a speaker and instructor on the local, state, and national levels. She, Dr. Walker, and the wonderful staff at Pennyroyal constantly work to provide you and your pets with the highest quality medical care possible in an intimate and caring setting.
