The PFCS shelter is a full-service ferret rescue and shelter organization. We currently have one main shelter facility where our adoptable ferrets are cared for. The Forget-Me-Not Ferret Rescue, located near Harrisburg, is run by Tracy Acker. We also have a network of trained foster facilities who also operate under the guidelines of the PFCS to help with special-needs ferrets or when our main shelters are full. Our Director of Shelter Operations, Kym Costanzo, oversees the entire shelter network and manages the administration of the shelter. All adoption and surrender requests are processed by the Director of Shelter Operations and then passed along to the appropriate shelter director. The shelter directors handle adoption screening and surrender intake, as well as the enormous task of caring for the ferrets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Ferrets are accepted into our shelters as space permits, where they are brought current on rabies and distemper vaccinations and provided any medical care needed. All ferrets are tested for Aleutians Disease Virus (ADV) prior to admission to the shelter.
Ferrets are provided only the best in care while they await placement in loving, permanent homes. The PFCS screens all adopters thoroughly prior to placing any ferret in a new home and provides ongoing education and support to prospective or current ferret owners.
