| Ferrets deserve to be legal Standard-Examiner

People who love their pets should not be made to suffer because of the
ignorance of lawmakers.
Ferrets are not wild animals. They've been bred and raised in captivity
for centuries. They even have a whole magazine devoted to their care as
pets.
If the problem is rabies, outlawing ferrets is especially ridiculous
because ferret owners tend to keep their pets confined to their homes.
The odds of a ferret coming into contact with a rabid animal are extremely
low. Ferret owners do not let their ferrets run loose.
On the other hand, thousands of dogs and cats are allowed to run loose
all over the county. Clearly, they're more exposed to the potential for
rabies. If you did the research, I expect you'd find that the vast majority
of dogs and cats in the county have not been vaccinated against rabies.
Why, then, aren't dogs and cats outlawed?
Ferrets deserve to be "legal" as much as dogs and cats!
