HAMPTON — A Hampton area couple has been charged with 25 counts of animal neglect.

Jeffrey Buseman and Shelley Allison also face 14 counts of failure to prove rabies vaccination, as well as one count of operating a kennel without a license.

The charges were filed following the execution of a search warrant on Nov. 11 when 15 dogs, eight birds, one ferret and two hedgehogs were taken from a location at 2473 Highway 3, west of Hampton.

It is unclear if the couple lives at the site.

All of the animals were transported to the Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo. They will be held there until a judgment is made in the case.

Any donations for food and veterinarian care may be sent to: Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, P. O. Box 57, Hampton, IA 50441.

Assisting the sheriff’s department in the case were the Cedar Bend Humane Society, the Hampton Veterinary Clinic and Black Hawk Animal Control.
